When space is a premium, Dilworth's Custom Design gets creative. Years of experience, remodeling homes of all sizes has provisioned their team of craftsmen with a distinct advantage when it comes to maximizing usable areas in kitchens and bathrooms in houses of any age.
Take this early 1800s farmhouse—the kitchen was an addition most likely constructed in the early 1900s, not long after concrete block was first invented. During demolition it was revealed that it was also likely built prior to the invention of insulation. Still, several families had thrived in the generational farmhouse, built when 2x4s were true and everyone had two outfits and two hooks to hang 'em on.
Despite a dearth of storage, scarcity of work surfaces, and only one tiny coat closet half the depth of a modern hanger on the entire first floor, the current owners had survived with the kitchen for thirty years. Remodeling was an annual discussion but windows would need to be raised effecting the exterior and massive room radiators were in the way of designing any kind of upgrade. The Dilworth team, through a series of meetings with the homeowners, presented viable options and a plan that transformed daily obstacles into convenient, comfortable, stylish solutions.

What was once a closed off room with a single 20"x20" work surface and a few worn Sears, Roebuck & Co. “cabinets” is now an open, bright functional and funky kitchen. Storage and workspace is smartly positioned to allow for the flow of traffic and all of the appliances integrate beautifully with Dilworth's stunning custom cabinetry in Pure White. A faux slate tile floor and rustic hardware keep this kitchen connected to the original personality of the home while an island in Needlepoint Blue is a modern touch featuring a wine fridge on one end and the space for the family dog on the other.
